Rejection and Love
To move forward and prepare for potential 50% capital acquisition funds available in July, we recently put in an offer on a 4-bedroom, 2 bath house in Clermont County, Ohio. There were no other interested parties, but we offered their listing price. They declined our offer. No reason given. I surmise that in reviewing the contract, they researched On Our Way Home, Inc. and our population served was discriminated against...which really hurts my heart.
NIMBY. Not-In-My-Backyard. We have been warned about this incredibly ugly stigma that property owners have against people trying to heal from substance use disorder. Addiction is so widespread...they likely already have neighbors whose families have been impacted by addiction, possibly mis-using drugs in their own neighborhood already! The evil one already whispers constant thoughts of guilt and shame into the ears of persons in recovery...we need to be just as steadfast in showing their worthiness as a child of God. Our communities are breaking...we need to show each other love.
Psalms 37:7 "Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for Him to act. Don't worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes!"
I have to control my human urge to press for justice,... and practice humility, instead...this is so difficult for me!
My heart was lifted, however by a huge contribution from a couple from near Columbus. They had answered our need and spent all winter making six quilts to put on our beds for use by residents. Quilted with blessed thread and prayed over while preparing....They are truly beautiful...(you can see all of them on our website's "Quilts of Love and Protection" page). And so, while there are people who don't understand and reject our population, feeding into the constant drones of guilt and shame from the evil spirits, there are others willing to give so much of their time, talents, and treasure for them as well! This shows them that despite where they are on the journey, God loves them and they are worthy of our love, too!
